11 chem week 6 reactions
hey yall its li again lets go straight into it
this week we learned about chemical reactions that changed history. my favourite was saponification, which is soap. soap has one hydrophilic end (it dissolves in water) and one hydrophobic end (it dissolves in greasy liquids). and then we did balancing equations. and then we did different types of reactions

- synthesis: two or more reactants create one product
- decomposition: one molecule is broken down into multiple reactants
- single displacement: a metal replaces a metal in a compound
- double displacement: a metal in a compound swaps places with another metal in another compound
- combustion
- complete: reaction of a compound/element and oxygen to form an oxide (if carbon is involved the products are carbon dioxide and water)
- incomplete: in the absence of enough carbon, a carbon-containing combustion reaction create water and carbon monoxide
and then we learned about what happens when metal oxides react with water (forms metal plus hydroxide) and when non-metals react with water (forms acids).
and then worksheets.
the inquiry task was fun. i checked to see which elements are the most reactive compared to other elements using an online applet. magnesium was the most reactive. silver was the least reactive.
we are here now
